KAMPALA
Government has assured the diplomatic community that Uganda is fully prepared to conduct free, fair, credible and peaceful General Elections on January 15.
Briefing members of the Diplomatic Corps on Tuesday morning, the State Minister for Information, Communication Technology and National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku Kiime, said the Electoral Commission (EC) was on course as campaigns enter their final phase, adding that key electoral systems, materials and oversight mechanisms already in place.
“Election materials, voter verification systems and monitoring mechanisms are in place, and the EC is on course,” Kabbyanga said.
He underscored government commitment to ensuring the integrity of the elections, noting that isolated isolated incidents reported during the campaign period had been handled.

Kabbyanga added that there was clear guidance against the misuse of force, with oversight provided by the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), internal security committees and civil society organisations.
He added that security agencies continued to ensure a conducive environment for all candidates and voters, while safeguarding peace, stability and constitutional order.
“Uganda welcomes national and international observers and remains open to constructive engagement,” he said.
Government urged political actors and citizens to exercise their rights responsibly, respect the law and reject incitement, stressing that peace remained the foundation of Uganda’s democracy and development.
Uganda goes to polls on January 15 to choose leaders at presidential, parliamentary and local government levels, under close domestic and international scrutiny.
