This was disclosed by the Prime Minister Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja, on Friday during a meeting with the Kakumiro district leaders on the formation of the district roads committee.

“The government is determined to help farmers shift from the non-cash subsistence economy to commercially oriented agriculture as one way of improving livelihood. Roads are key in achieving this,” she said.

According to the prime minister, the new tarmac road will connect the districts of Kakumiro, Kyankwanzi, and Kiboga. She said the upgrade is intended to helping farmers to access markets for their produces.

She said the road will be constructed under contract financing by China Communications Construction Company notingvthst the President had already asked the Uganda Roads National Authority (UNRA) to expedite the procurement process so that work can start.

The state minister of transport, Fred Byamukama also the Bugangaizi west MP said government will contract patriotic companies or individuals who can ably offer qualitative services at a reasonable cost.

He urges the public to help government to monitor the ongoing projects in the country especially the critical oil roads and other interventions.

The Kakumiro-Nkooko Road was considered in the 2015/16 FY budget but no works had since been in progress.
