LWENGO
In the sunbaked hills of Lwengo, where dusty roads wind through villages scarred by poverty and hardship, a beacon of hope shines brightly.

It’s not a grand monument or a flashy initiative, but a humble organization fueled by faith and compassion: Child Empowerment and Support Organisation-Uganda (CHESO-Uganda) founded by Edson Naturinda, a once Shepherd boy from the same village whose hope came to life through Compassion sponsorship.

This Christ-centered non-profit is rewriting the stories of vulnerable children and youth, one transformed life at a time, turning whispers of despair into shouts of triumph. Imagine young Promise, a 16-year-old orphan from Lwekishugi village, who once scavenged for scraps to survive with no hope.

I thought school was just a dream for kids like me, she recalls with a shy smile. But CHESO stepped in, covering her school fees, providing books and uniforms, and wrapping her in mentorship that nurtured not just her mind, but her heart and soul Edson said.

Today, Promise dreams of becoming a Medical Doctor, eager to pay forward the light she’s receiving through CHESO-Uganda. Stories like hers aren’t anomalies at CHESO-Uganda—they’re the norm.

Founded on Biblical values, CHESO-Uganda believes every child deserves dignity, opportunity, and a chance to thrive. Located just 10km off the Katovu-Mbarara Highway in Lwekishugi, Kalagala, Malongo, the organization operates from a simple base but casts a wide net of impact. Our work is holistic: mind, body, and spirit says Mr. Edson, CHESO Executive Director.

At the heart of CHESO’s mission are four powerhouse programs designed to tackle the root causes of vulnerability in Uganda’s underserved communities.

The Education Program is a game-changer, ensuring kids like Promise get quality schooling through fees support, materials, and skills training. The organization envisions establishing a Christian High School, a haven for holistic, Christ-centered learning that could educate hundreds more.

Health challenges, often overlooked in rural areas, are met head-on by the Health Program. From medical referrals and health education to distributing essential health supplies, CHESO promotes wellness for all. Their ambitious goal of this program is building a Community Health Centre to bring quality healthcare to families’ doorsteps.

Emotional scars run deep in communities hit by loss and hardship, which is why the Socio-Emotional Program focuses on building resilience. Through counseling, mentorship, and child protection training, young people learn life skills in safe spaces like holiday camps and youth conferences. It’s where healing happens. Kids connect, grow, and discover they’re not alone.

Tying it all together is the Spiritual Program, nurturing faith through Bible studies and discipleship. Conferences ignite young hearts, helping them become lights in their communities. In a world full of noise, this program offers quiet strength rooted in Scripture.

The ripple effects are profound. Families strengthened, communities transformed—CHESO’s impact echoes far beyond Lwengo. Partners and donors from Uganda and abroad, including supporters in the USA, fuel this mission, proving that compassion knows no borders.

But CHESO’s journey is far from over. With plans for the high school and health center, they’re calling on more hands and hearts to join the cause. We’re not just empowering children; we’re building a haven of hope,” the team emphasizes.

In Lwengo, where challenges loom large, CHESO Uganda stands as a testament to faith in action.

From Promise’s bright eyes to the laughter echoing from youth camps, it’s clear: When compassion leads, miracles follow.
