According to the district Probation Officer, Annet Kyomuhendo, a total of  Eight (8) girls were impregnanted by their biological fathers, while a total of 642 girls were defiled and pregnanted by other people in a period of Eight (8)months from January, 2021 to August, 2021.

This was revealed on Wednesday during a workshop on domestic and family violence organized by Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) at Sevenin Gardens Kabwohe in Sheema district.

Kyomuhendo further said that the number of young girls under the age of 18 years who have been infected with HIV/AIDS in Sheema is worrying. She said that the number of those who did not report to police or go to health centres for check ups may be much higher than the number in records.

Akong Bibian, the OC CID Sheema Central Police Station said that a total of 107 families in Sheema are today under the care of children below the age of 18yrs. She blames the trend on the adoption of the westen culture.

The Sheema District RDC Frank Kyereere blames the increased cases of adultery and domestic violence on some Community Development Officers (CDOs) and Parish Chiefs who have made it a habit to spend all their time dining in different pork joints and bars.

RDC Kyereere stressed that some CDOs and Parish Chiefs no longer reside in the areas they were deployed something that crippled service delivery in the district.
Reports from the Sheema indicate that a total of young girls between the age 10 years and 17yrs mounting to 12,430 are now being employed as house maids something that violates their rights and promotes child labour in the area. A total of 35,447 young girls have also been forced into early marriages according to reports.
