Ministry of Gender Labor and Social Development (MGLSD) new kid on the block Sarah Kanyike has expressed concerns to serve to the interests of the public vowing to leave an outstanding legacy.

“My philosophy of public service is to deliver services to the communities and leave a positive legacy throughout my tenure,” she said.

She added; “The differences in political parties and colours come as a by the way but all that the people want is service delivery. And that is exactly what I want us to work together to achieve.”

Kanyike who assumed office on Wednesday also edged to promote teamwork at the ministry which she believes will enhance service delivery in communities.

Its recalled that President Museveni recently appointed Sarah Kanyike as State Minister for elderly and persons with disabilities from the Deputy Lord Mayor KCCA, a position had held until her new appointment.

Kanyike was slapped with a worm welcome at the Ministry by a team of technical officials led by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Mr. James Ebitu, who oriented her through a series of activities at the ministry and handed over to her instruments of service including an official Ministerial vehicle for the smooth execution of her duties.

Ebitu said the ministry technical team was ready to support her in ensuring that she delivers on the tasks assigned to her by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in fulfilment of the social contract that the NRM government has with the People of Uganda.

She hailed President Museveni for recognizing her contribution at KCCA and appointing her to a new position.

The office which Kanyike takes over has been vacant for over 5 years since Hon. Sulaiman Kyebakoze Madada’s tenure.

She will focus on ministry’s key Programmes such as; Expanding Social Protection under which older persons above 80 years receive a monthly stipend of Shs25,000, Special Grants for Persons with Disabilities and a host of legal and policy frameworks for the two interest groups.
