Nobert Mao has sworn to mother earth not to quit his position as Democratic Party (DP) president despite being appointed the minister of justice and constitutional affairs.
Mao was speaking to journalists shortly after he has been approved by Parliament as minister on Friday July 22, at parliament.
“I have heard voices calling for me to step aside. The reason would have been for instance if members said I will be too busy. That one I would listen to it,” Mao remarked on Friday.
This follows demands for Mao’s resignationas DP President from a section of the party members who accuse him of entering an agreement to work with the ruling NRM and Museveni.
However Mao says that the corporation agreement signed with Museveni does not contradict any laws of DP constitution vowing not to quit.
“The constitution of DP and the cooperation agreement (with Mr Museveni) are not mutually exclusive. I signed it as president of DP and will continue exercising my duty as DP president,” Mao said
On Thursday evening, DP legislators and other party leaders sat at different centres and accused Mao of signing an agreement with NRM and accepting the ministerial position without consultations with the party top leadership, National Executive Committee – NEC.
During a meeting by DP parliamentary group at parliament yesterday, the legislators resolved that Mao should tender in a resignation letter peacefully lest tgey will sue him to court or dismiss him and elect another party President.
