The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, has appointed nine senior police officers as electoral zonal commanders to coordinate security efforts ahead of the 2026 general elections.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the IGP announced the creation of nine electoral policing zones to ensure a peaceful electoral process during both party primaries and the general elections.
According to the statement signed by Police Spokesperson ACP R. Kituuma, the appointments take immediate effect and are aimed at strengthening security coordination across various regions.

The appointed zonal commanders and their respective areas of coverage are:
1. AIGP Kafeero Moses Kabugo, Busoga Zone (Jinja): Covers Busoga North, Busoga East, Kiira, and Sezibwa.
2. AIGP Tanui Stephen, Northern Zone (Gulu): Covers Aswa West, Aswa East, West Nile, and North West Nile.
3. CP Lawot Patrick, Karamoja Zone (Moroto): Covers Mt. Moroto, Kidepo, Elgon, Sipi, Bukedi South, and Bukedi North.
4. CP Nkore Paul, Kyoga Zone (Soroti): Covers North Kyoga, East Kyoga, and South Kyoga.
5. CP Maate Godfrey Bolingo, Central Zone (Masaka): Covers Masaka West, Masaka East, Wamala, and Katonga.
6. CP Muluya Moses, Albertine Zone (Hoima): Covers Albertine South, Albertine North, and Savannah.
7. CP Ecega Richard, Kampala Metropolitan Zone (Kampala): Covers KMP North, KMP South, and KMP East.
8. CP Kulaigye Hillary, South Western Zone (Mbarara): Covers Rwizi, Kigezi, and Greater Bushenyi.
9. CP Namuwoza Dennis, Rwenzori Zone (Fort Portal): Covers Rwenzori East and Rwenzori West.
The Police urged cooperation from the public and stakeholders to facilitate smooth and secure electoral processes throughout the zones.
