The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Abas Byakagaba, paid tribute to the late Ssalongo Willy Kiwawu, describing him as a dedicated and hardworking officer whose cheerful spirit and unwavering commitment left a lasting mark on the Uganda Police Force and the wider community.
Delivering the condolence message on behalf of police management, Director of Counter Terrorism David Wasswa Ssengendo conveyed sympathies to the bereaved family. He praised Ssalongo for his exemplary service and strong character, noting that his values of unity, love, and duty continue to resonate through his children, two of whom serve in the force; Assistant Superintendent of Police Babirye Eve and Senior DPC of Sembabule and Superintendent of Police Nakintu Jackline.
Ssalongo, a former electrician with the Uganda Police Force, passed away at the age of 68 following an operation on Friday night. His funeral service was held in Kyamagwa Village, Jinja City, where Reverend Captain Alfred Hasahya of Wakitaka Parish led prayers, urging the family to remain steadfast in faith.
Community leaders and mourners gathered to honor his legacy. Member of Parliament-elect for Jinja City Northern Division, Muyonjo Kussein, lauded Ssalongo’s integrity and clean service record, encouraging officers and citizens alike to emulate his example. Speakers emphasized that his honesty, hard work, and devotion to service should live on in both his family and the community.
Deputy Resident City Commissioner of Hoima City, Robert Kanusu, also hailed the Uganda Police Force for its role in safeguarding lives and property. He called on officers to remain vigilant and committed to eliminating criminal elements, citing the recent Ggaba incident as a reminder of the importance of continued dedication to public safety.
As mourners reflected on his life, Ssalongo Willy Kiwawu was remembered not only as a loyal officer but also as a father and community member whose values of love, unity, and service will endure. His legacy, leaders said, is a guiding light for the police force and the nation.
