The Internal Security Organisation (ISO) has won an award of the best drill team during the inter-forces competition.
This was announced by the chief umpire and boss of Uganda Airlines Cargo, Lt. Gen Lakara Nakibus during the first inter-forces competition held at Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala on May 14.
The ISO walked away with sh10m and a trophy for their efforts after being commanded by Maj. Peter Baguma.
“It was a result of hard work and coordination. Our team displayed precision and excellency,” Maj. Baguma said.
The ISO great performance is attributed to the outgoing Deputy Director General Col.Emmy Katabazi efforts.
According to Lt. Gen Nakibus ISO exhibited the best drill practices necessary for the Armed Forces.
Lt. Gen Nakibus announced Special Forces Command (SFC) as the first runnner-up and was awarded a prize of sh5m.
He said the best drill commander non-commissioned officer was Sgt. Mohammed Wasswa from ISO.
The Air Force was the best pro stick team while the Third Infantry Division was the best cane team.
Lt. Gen Nakibus informed guests that 16 teams participated in the competition and eight made to the finals.
During the award ceremony the CDF Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba congratulated the teams and handed the dummy cheque to the best overall team in drill received by the ISO director general Arthur Mugenyi.
“I congratulate the entire UPDF and ISO for competing on the first CDF’s Interforces Drill competition. They demostrated excellent skills,” Gen. Muhoozi stated.
He pointed out that drills are miniature representation of the larger cooperation between different services, divisions, branches, formations and units that comprise UPDF.
Gen. Muhoozi quoted the famous Field Marshal Benard Motogomery who once said: “I know how good an army is by its drill.”
Gen. Muhoozi told the audience that efforts are being made to improve the welfare of soldiers and paying attention to the quality of professional military education of army officers.
He said the “drills” event is now part of CDF annual calendar which aims at enhancing discipline, teamwork and professionalism within the Forces.
“We have an army capable of defending the country because of what has been exhibited through military qualities and values,” Gen. Muhoozi said. End
