The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports in Uganda, Janet Museveni, has called for stringent measures against exam malpractice ahead of the Uganda Certificate of Examinations (UCE) in 2023. Speaking at a meeting with education stakeholders on Monday, she reminded attendees of the extended penalties under the UNEB Act for those engaged in or facilitating exam malpractice.
Mrs. Museveni condemned the rising cases of exam malpractice throughout the country, saying it had a negative effect on the quality of education. She added that it was time for everyone to work collectively to uproot the vice from the education system.
Prior to her speech, the Uganda National Examination Board’s chairperson, Mary Okwakol, had cried out about the poor infrastructure of some rural schools, with the cost of moving exam materials to these schools proving too high.
The Uganda Certificate of Examinations (UCE) will begin on October 13, 2023, while the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) will run from November 7 to 9. Finally, the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Examinations (UACE) will begin on November 10 and end on December 1, 2023.
Education stakeholders have been urged to be vigilant during exams to ensure no malpractices go unnoticed.
