Juma Muzenero, an independent candidate in the Busongora County South constituency, parliamentary by-election, has withdrawn from the race hours to election day.
Busongora south county in Kasese district isgoing on polls tomorrow Thursday 18th August and seven candidates had been nominated to contest for this seat.
Mr. Atwijukire, the Kasese district returning officer has confirmed to Muzenero’s withdraw reports and noted that a notice of withdrawal will be pinned at each of the 100 polling Stations in the Constituency.
Muzenero’s withdrawal leaves only six candidates in the race. They are opposition NUP’s, Jackson Mbaju, Aloysius Baguma Kighema (FDC), Bernadette Businge DP), and ruling NRM party aspirant, Thembo Gideon Mujungu.
Others are Doreen Izagiire and David Mulindwa Isimbwa, both independent candidates.
The EC has also clarified that if any vote is cast in favour of the withdrawn candidate, the vote will be counted invalid.
“Polling is scheduled for tomorrow Thursday, 18th/08/2022 starting from 7:00am to 4:00pm,” EC said.
Munezero who had earlier shown interest to stand on the ANT ticket decided to be nominated as an independent saying that the ANT party did not facilitate his nomination.
