Kigezi’s largest hospital, Kabale Regional Referral Hospital is stuck with one male adult body, that lay unclaimed.
The already decomposing body was conveyed to the hospital mortuary by police after it was discovered by game rangers in Bwindi Impenetrable National Game Park, Ruhija Sector in Rubanda district on November 5.
“A team of officers responded to the crime scene and documented it, and the body was conveyed to Kabale referral hospital mortuary for Postmortem,” said ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson.
Maate described the deceased as a male adult, wearing two pairs of trousers, a checked shirt, a coat and closed shoes, whose identity remains unknown.
The police have urged anyone missing a loved one to visit the hospital mortuary for identification to facilitate a dignified burial.
“Anyone missing the dear one should visit the hospital mortuary so that is identified and taken for a decent burial, and whoever may be having information pertaining to his death should volunteer it so that perpetrators are brought to book,” police said.
Cases of unclaimed bodies are common in Uganda, victims of road accidents form the bulk of unidentified and unclaimed bodies received at different hospital mortuaries, followed by murder, whereas others are abandoned by their loved ones due to high hospital and mortuary bills.
