KABALE
Police in Kabale District are hunting for a man who allegedly killed his five-year-old son following a domestic dispute with his wife.
The suspect, identified as Maritazari Tumuhereze, a resident of Kasiru Village, Nyombe Parish in Kahungye Sub-county, reportedly hacked his biological son, Turyasingura Remegio, to death on Saturday evening.
According to police reports, the incident occurred at around 8:00 PM after Tumuhereze had earlier engaged in a heated altercation with his wife, Tumwebaze Agnes, at Kasiru Trading Centre. Tumuhereze accused her of infidelity, alleging that the child was fathered by another man during his seven-year absence.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate said Tumuhereze first assaulted his wife at a bar owned by a man identified only as Rogers before proceeding to his mother-in-law’s home, where he allegedly attacked her as well. He then returned to his residence, where he reportedly picked up a panga and fatally attacked his son.
Police at Kahungye Police Station opened a murder case following the incident. A homicide team from Kabale District, led by Acting District CID Officer D/IP Barijunaki Samuel, visited and documented the crime scene. The body of the child was examined on-site, and statements were recorded from relevant witnesses.
Maate confirmed that Tumuhereze is still on the run, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend him.
Police have appealed to the public to provide any information that may lead to the suspect’s arrest.
