The deceased is Arinaitwe Favor,  a pupil at Progressive Primary School Rwakaraba. She was knocked at Burambira a long Kabale-Kisoro road on Monday (June 5) at around 5:30 PM.

Eyewitnesses say that Favor was crossing the road when she was struck by a white Toyota Premio (registration UBE 642E). It is alleged that the driver, who remains at large, was traveling from Kabale towards Kisoro.

“Upon seeing the child crossing from left to right, the driver reportedly attempted to avoid her, but instead accelerated, causing the vehicle to lose control and veered off the road killing the child on the spot,” Eyewitnesses said.

Police responded to the incident, towed the vehicle to the station, and created a sketch of the accident site. The body was handed over to the child’s family pending a post-mortem examination and burial.

Kigezi Police Spokesperson ASP Elly Maate confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are underway to apprehend the driver. “Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Kabale police.”
