KAMPALA
Kitgum district in Acholi sub-region will host the 61st independence celebrations on October 6.
This was disclosed by the minister for presidency, Hon. Milly Babalanda during a media briefing at Media Centre Kampala.
According to the minister, the celebrations will take place in the district Farm Institute in Kitgum municipality. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa is expected to be the Chief Guest. He will be in company of a special delegation from the United Arab Emirates led by the minister of state for foreign affairs.
During the celebrations, over 40 individuals will be awarded with medials for their contributions towards national development
“Many activities to celebrate this day have been lined up among of which will be honoring by His Excellence the president of 41 individuals with national medals for extraordinary roles they have performed in uplifting our motherland Uganda,” minister Babalanda said
She added that the president’s office working jointly with a Germany International NGO, Bazungu-EV and Prince Kimbugwe Foundation have been offering free eye surgical services to all persons with eye challenges in Acholi sub-region online with the day’s celebrations.
“A total of 1,163 patients were screened. Out of these, 153 will undergo eye surgeries and 557 will be provided with eye glasses while others will receive treatment. The surgeries began yesterday October 2 and will end tomorrow October 4, 2023,” she explained.
Guests who will sit near the president are required to undergo COVID-19 test.
Minister Babalanda warned that guests who will arrive after the President has arrived, will not be allocated special seats in the VIP section.
