The Kampala International University Western Campus Catholic Chaplaincy held their first concert, dubbed The Cantante Matre Dei (Sing to the Mother of God). The concert delivered by the Mighty Choir was aimed at raising funds towards the choir projects that included new choir gowns and church instruments. Over UGX 4m shillings was collected.
The concert pulled hundreds of christians who included the family of Mr. Ndifuna Julius, university dons, Ishaka business community among others.
The Executive Director Nkozi Hospital, Dr. Criscent Tumuhaise, who is also the Chairman of St. Kagwa Parish Kampala residents also attended the function, and was installed as the choir patron.
The Choir Chairperson, Ms. Ndagire Winfred thanked their Patron, Dr. Criscent Tumuhaise for helping the choir craft the idea of staging a concert to raise funds for choir development.
In his speech, Dr. Criscent Tumuhaise, thanked the Chaplaincy and St. Kagwa Parish for identifying him and choosing him as the choir patron.
“I am a choir member also, I sing in St. Peter’s Choir at Makerere University, and the AMDA Choir, I am a basser, and so, I know what it means singing in a University Chaplaincy Choir.”said Tumuhaise.
He also thanked the chaplain and parish priest Fr. Mutambi Evarist for his work in improving the parish in general. He contributed UGX 1million towards the choir projects and an additional UGX 500,000/= towards the completion of the KIU Chapel.
The Guest of Honor Hon. Derrick Kabuura, MP Bushenyi Ishaka Municipality, was represented by Hon. Innocent Ayebazibwe Sande and donated UGX 1million towards the cause.
In his speech, Hon Kabuura thanked the Catholic Church for the social transformation especially of the youth. Activities like participating in church choirs help the youth to shun bad behaviors and practices which would otherwise harm their health.
The parish priest Fr Mutambi Evarist thanked the members for always supporting the church.
