The situation at Banda suburb campus Kyambogo university is threatening lives as students are riots the university decision to suspend all physical lectures following a new report confirming eight corona virus cases recorded at the university.
Armed to the tooth soldiers have been deployed at the university to calm down the chaotic students and fire bullets and teargas have been used to disperse protesters.
A swarm of Student running allover the university premises are heard chanting in People power slogans denouncing online lectures.
A student who talked to this reporter on conditions of anonymity disclosed that the online lectures ordeal, the protest is being caused by several other reasons such as unfair university financial policies inwhich the university imposed high surcharges worth Ugx 50,000 to defaulting students.
The source said the strike will continue until the university administration listen to the demands of students.
About the confirmed covid-19 cases.
Kyambogo University Vice Chancellor Prof. Elly Katunguka has suspended physical learning and ordered for online learning following a spike in covid19 infections at the university.
The suspension follows moments after the university registered eight cases of covid-19 with six being students and two administrative staff.
It is reported that many students at the university have cough and flu and yet many have refused to get tested warning the situation could worsen.
All deans and heads of departments have been ordered to engage students through Open distance and e-learning to avoid physical contact while students and staff who present symptoms of COVID-19 have been advised to stay at home until they fully recover.
Yesterday, the ministry of health confirmed 207 new covid 19 cases bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 44.281 cases.
