The NRM District Returning Officer for Mitooma, Kyabakama Ephraim has declared Rebecca Kyarampe the overall winner of the party primaries for the Mitooma District Woman Member of Parliament (WMP) flag ahead of the 2026 general elections.

According to official results released by the NRM Electoral Commission on Thursday morning, Kyarampe garnered 39,078 votes, representing 52.3% of the total votes cast. She beat four other contenders in the hotly contested race.
Her closest challenger, and incumbent MP, Juliet Agasha Bashisha, polled 22,134 votes (29.7%), while Faith Muganzi Kyohairwe came third with 4,704 votes (6.3%). Rosebell Twinomujuni managed 5,506 votes (7.4%), and Adelia Nsimaruhanga trailed with 226 votes (0.3%).
The results were declared at 1:30 am on Thursday, July 18, at the district tally center.
“I therefore declare Kyarampe Rebecca, who has polled the highest number of votes representing 52.3%, as the duly elected NRM flagbearer for Mitooma District Woman Member of Parliament, 2025,” Ephraim Kyabakama, the Mitooma District NRM Returning Officer declared.
Kyarampe will face candidates from other political parties such as NUP, PFF, FDC among others in the general elections scheduled for January, 2026.
By Press time, Bashiisha was yet to concede to defeat. It’s not clear if she will contest as independent however, according to the NRM party, candidates who lose in NRM primaries are not allowed to run as independents in the general elections.
The party national chairman, HE Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has already instituted a tribunal to handle election disputes arising from the NRM primaries.
