A renown businessman dealing in coffee business in Lwengo district has been shot dead and his brother critically injured by yet to identify assailants.
The deceased is identified as Zaire Matovu while his injured brother has been identified as Morris Kato.
The incident occurred around 9 pm on Wednesday night at Kanku village in Kiwangala parish in Kisseka sub-county.
The two brothers were allegedly heading home in a Toyota Premio vehicle, registration number UAM 120N when unknown two gun-wielding men wearing police jackets shot at their vehicle several times before they could disappear using a motorcycle.
The deceased’s son, Denis Mpuuga, says that they waited for Matovu and Kato to return home in vain until when they received information about the shooting.

Lwengo district police commander Peter Akampurira says that they have launched a manhunt for the assailants.

“Our security team visited the scene of crime, we towed the deceased’s vehicle to Mbirizi police station as investigations continue.” Akampurira said.

Kato has been transferred to Mulago National Referral hospital in Kampala. Matovu’s body is lying at Masaka hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.

The attack comes two days after unknown assailants opened fire on the vehicle of the former chief of defense forces (CDF) General Katumba Wamala, killing his daughter, Brenda Wamala Nantongo, and driver Haruna Kayondo. Katumba survived with two bullet wounds on both shoulders.
