Five students of Rukungiri high school in Rukungiri Municipality are nursing injuries after their school was attacked by unknown people armed with machetes and sticks broke into their dormitory and injured them.
The incident occured on Tuesday morning at around 4:OOAM while students were still in their deep slumber.
The Rukungiri district police commander, SP Musa Tibakirana says that the police was called to calm the situation but found when the attackers had left.
Tibakirana says that students suspected their fellows from a neighbouring school; Makoboore High School to have masterminded the attack because they had previously attacked them.
This prompted police to order administrators at Makobore to conduct an emergency roll call for security reasons.
The roll call, Tibakirana says found out that 30 students were missing from the boarding section. Five students later showed up after the roll call from outside school
A number of properties including window panes of boys’ dormitory, Head teacher’s office, Director’s office, and the computer laboratory have been destroyed according to the school headteacher, Robert Mugabe
Mugabe told reports that this was a third time Makobore High school students were attacking Rukungiri High on reasons known to them, the first attack being on 29th June, 2022, the second incident was on 16.6.2022
The Headteacher further said that the injured have been rushed to St Luke medical chambers in Rukungiri for a first aid treatment but not in critical conditions.
