Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential flag bearer Nathan Nandala Mafabi will serve for only two terms if elected President of Uganda in next year’s general elections, the party has announced.
FDC party president Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat revealed the commitment while addressing supporters at Kabango-Kinyara trading centre in Masindi District during Mafabi’s campaign trail in the Bunyoro sub-region.
“I want to tell you, the people of Masindi, that my president, Mr. Mafabi, has told me that once he is voted into office, he will serve for only a maximum of ten years. The wrong idea of life presidency stops with Mr. Museveni’s regime,” Amuriat told the cheering crowd.
Amuriat said the two-term pledge is part of Mafabi’s broader agenda to restore constitutionalism and strengthen democratic governance in the country, which he said has been eroded under the current administration.
Mafabi, who kicked off his campaigns in western Uganda earlier this week, spent the day traversing Masindi and Kiryandongo districts, where he held several rallies outlining his plans for economic reform, youth empowerment, and accountable leadership.
According to FDC officials, the opposition leader will continue his campaign trail into the northern part of the country in the coming days as part of his nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2026 polls.
If elected, Mafabi would become Uganda’s first president to voluntarily commit to a two-term limit since the removal of presidential term limits from the Constitution in 2005.
