Voting in Makindye was held at Kansanga Seed Secondary School, where officials described the process as peaceful and orderly, with strong participation, particularly among first-time youth voters.

In the male youth councillor race, National Resistance Movement candidate Allan Serimu was elected unopposed. Speaking to Parrots Ug at the polling venue, Serimu welcomed the turnout, saying it reflected growing political awareness among young people and confidence in the ruling party.

“After winning the primaries, I convinced those I beat to join me, and those from NUP also agreed to work with me because we have the majority,” Serimu said.

He pledged to work with all youths in Makindye regardless of political affiliation, saying his leadership would focus on service delivery, employment and skills development.

“I want to remind them that yes, I am from NRM, but I will be a councillor for all youths in Makindye,” Sirimu said.

The female youth councillor race drew competition, with NRM’s Doreen Nyaketoho facing National Unity Platform candidate Martha Namukwaya. The contest followed the last-minute withdrawal of independent candidate Dorothy Zzalwango, narrowing the race to two major political parties.

Addressing reporters at the polling station, Nyaketoho emphasized unity and participation, saying youth leadership should prioritize service delivery over political rivalry. She expressed confidence that her grassroots mobilization would secure her victory.

“We have been mobilizing young voters from across Makindye to come and vote for us. This has not been a one-day activity, and as it stands, this will be our victory,” Nyaketoho said.

“We have put in a lot of effort, which is why we are confident of victory here,” she added.

Electoral officials reported no major incidents during the exercise, describing the voting process as calm and transparent.

The Makindye youth elections are part of a nationwide process aimed at strengthening youth representation in local governance structures.
