Following yesterday’s High Court orders to all MPs to return the Shs 20m which Parliament had allocated to MPs, the Rubabo county in Rukungiri district Member of Parliament, Hon Mary Paula Turyahikayo has today at a morning’s dew obeyed to the laws depositing the money on the district task force account. The Parrots learned.
“Deposited the 20m to District Task Force fund. May God guide us as we fight #coronavirus together as a nation.” Mp Paula tweeted.
She further said the money is meant to help the task force reach out to people in this pandemic.
“Like any law abidincitizen, I can’t disobey the country’s law and I have handed over the money to the district task force to help them reach out to our people in these current hard times,” she explained.
MP Paula’s decision follow Justice Michael Ebelu’s court orders yesterday Wednesday April29th,2020 to all MPs to return the 20million shillings which Parliament commission wired on to their accounts. The Ntungamo municipality Mp Gerald Karuhanga had earlier got a court interim blocking fellow MPs from using the money.
Yesterday, the Parliament commission, MP Karuhanga reached an agreed consensus in court making the judge rule that all MPs should either return the money to the commission which would take the money to the National/ district task force or directly take it to the task forces of their respective districts of representation.
Hon Mary Paula Turyahikayo becomes the first legislator in Rukungiri district to return or take the money to the task force or Parliament commission. However, other legislators have also showed interests in returning the money.
MP Paula who in 2006 gained a name of Mama Rubabo due to the love her supporters had towards her, has been in Parliament since 2006. She’s one of the great persons whose names can’t be missed on the list of Rukungiri district most probably Rubabo county.
Because of her greatness and the much love of her supporters, she earned herself a reputation of formidable role model of women in politics after defeating popular Prof Mondo Kagonyera in a hot contested election. She’s among a few women in Uganda holding counties as full MPs.
As if that’s not enough, she is the only NRM leaning MP from Rukungiri district with others; Mp Rolland Mugume Kahonda (Rukungiri municipality), Hon Fred Turyamuhweza (Rujumbura county) and Hon Betty Muzaniira (WMP) being opposition (FDC).
