Police in MITOOMA on Sunday arrested Alfred Mugarura, incumbent LCIII / Mayor Mitooma Town Council and 10 others on allegations of defying curfew guidelines.
It is alleged that on Sunday night at around 10PM during police operations to enforcement curfew directives, Mugarura and his co arrested were found while taking a booze at his bar Side View in Mitooma town where they were arrested instantly.
Anonymous source told Parrotsug that he was forewarned to close his bar but outrightly rejectted using his mayoral position to defy something which prompted operatives to act without hesitation.
The source further said: “He is fond of defying curfew guidelines. This is not his first to be arrested for operating illegally. He arrested and released sometime back on similar allegations.”
Parrotsug learnt that he (Mugarura) was arrested with Ten (10) other people all of whom are bar workers while clients took on their heels.
The suspects have been identified as Yonah Byamanwoha, Robert Asiimwe and the lady only identified as Monica. Police didn’t divulge into the details of other suspects stating that they are new worker who don’t possess any identification documents.
They are currently detained at Mitooma police station waiting for charges.
It is understood that President Museveni in March ordered for the closure of bars and curfew hours to restrict crowded gatherings due to the precedents of COVID-19.
Although some sectors have had their restrictions eased, bars are among other things that up to date are still under lockdown.
Today, Uganda has recorded COVID-19 cumulative average of 7,530 Cases, 3,647 Recoveries and 73 Fatalities.
