COU Head Criticizes Canterbury Appointment

Mbarara Archdiocese has set 27th August 2022 as the date on which fourteen (14) deacons will be ordained in to the order of priesthood and twelve (12) seminerians will be ordained as deacons.

According to the ordination ban for holy orders released by the Assistant Diocesen Chancellor Fr Cresecent Mucunguzi, the ordination ceremony will take place at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral – Nyamitanga, Mbarara City.

According to the released ban, seminarians to be ordained to diaconate order are Abel Atwiine – Kyamuhunga parish, Emmanuel Byakwiza – Mabonwa, Richard Kakuru, Henry Kamugisha- Nyamitanga, Clecent Mandera – Ibanda, Gordon Muhebwa, Cosma Nyoreka – Buhimba, Ernest Sunday – Rugazi, Bruno Tumwesigye, and Vianney Turyajunwaki of Nyamitanga parish.

In addition, a total of 14 deacons including deacon Aine of Bubangizi Parish, Chrispus Amumpaire – Kashekuro, Evaristo Ariyo – Kakoma, Andrew Ayebazibwe – Ibanda, Wilbroad Barigye – Mabonwa, Julius Ceasar Kamukama – Rwera, Ronnie Manzi – Kyamuhunga, Edmond Mugumya – Kyoga, Julius Muhwezi – Kihani, Leonidas Muhereza – Kazo, Levius Muhwezi – Kihani, Frank Mukundane – Rubindi, Patrick Tumukunde – Kigarama, and Alex Twesigye of Mabonwa Parish.

Fr. Mucunguzi said in a statement that the candidates’ names will be publicly announced in all parishes and centres of the diocese to allow christians with any impedimentsto sacred orders to reveal to the parish priest or any priests in charge as required by the canon law.

“According to canon 1043, Christ’s faithful are bound to reveal, before ordination to the ordinary or the parish priest such impediments to sacred orders as they may know about it,” said Fr. Mucunguzi

He appealed to the priests to return to the Archbishop’s office all the findings of the ban announcements by 2nd August, 2022.

“Whether the findings are positive or negative, each parish priest or priest in charge isbunder obligation to submit them to the Archbishop’s office without fail.”
