The Chief Magistrates Court sitting today at Nakawa has remanded to Luzira prison, Molly Katanga, wife to deceased Henry Katanga on charges of her husband.
Molly has been wanted to answer charges related to her husband’s murder by shooting which occurred on November 2, 2023, in their home Mbuya Chwa II road Kampala.
The Chief Magistrate Erias Kakooza referred the case to High Court stating that his court has no jurisdiction to try her. This was after prosecution led by Jonathan Muwaganya informed the Court that the investigations were complete and asked to commit her to the High Court for trial.
The suspect’s lawyers led by Peter Kabatsi asked the Court to issue an order to prisons to allow the accused to continue accessing her doctors due to her ailing conditions.
According to the lawyers, their client has had five consecutive injuries arguing that she still needs medical attention.
They also appealed to court to order for evacuation of security personnel still guarding the accused home to enable the family access it.
This prompted the magistrate to direct the prison officers to make sure that Molly Katanga’s doctors access her while in prison. He has also ruled that the family members shouldn’t be blocked by security from accessing their home.
She was then remanded to Luzira until February 9, when the High Court will be ready to try her.
