BUSHENYI
The race for the Bushenyi District Woman MP seat continues to heat up after another wave of youth crossed from Vianah Kemigisha alias Nyamunyonyi’s camp to join that of the incumbent, Hon. Annet Katusiime Mugisha.
During a campaign stop in Nyakabirizi Cell, Ward 1, Nyakabirizi Division on Tuesday, a group of youths identifying themselves as the Ghetto Youth publicly denounced their support for Nyamunyonyi and pledged allegiance to NRM party flagbearer Hon. Katusiime.
Among the defectors was Jonathan Behayo, commonly known as Nshozi, a long-time mobiliser in the Nyamunyonyi camp. Behayo told the gathering that he had been “hoodwinked” into fighting the incumbent and had now decided to back the NRM flag bearer.
The youth vowed to mobilise and transport elderly voters in the district on polling day to ensure Katusiime secures victory.

While welcoming the group, the Nyakabirizi Division LC3 chairperson urged residents to rally behind the NRM candidate (Katusiime), pointing to what he described as “visible achievements” in the area. These, he said, include extension of safe, clean piped water and support to community development projects among others.
On her part, Hon. Katusiime reiterated her campaign commitments as outlined in her Plan of Action Manifesto. She said she plans to distribute more than 10,000 chicks to households across Bushenyi, support tea and coffee farmers with seedlings and fertilisers, and lobby for improved infrastructure, among other priorities.
The contest between Katusiime and Nyamunyonyi has grown increasingly competitive as both camps intensify mobilisation ahead of the January 15 elections.
