As Primary Leaving Examinations are drawing closer, headteachers and teachers have been challenged to maintain their reputation as professionals and also respect their work.
This was sounded by Ruhinda South member of parliament Hon. Capt. Mugabe Dononzio Kahonda during a meeting with Primary school headteachers and sub – county chiefs early this week at Kabira Tc Headquarters as they released the Pre – PLE exams 2023 an initiative he started in his constituency.
The Pre – PLE examinations aims at testing the p.7 Candidates capacity towards the incoming National PLE examinations set for 7th to 9th November 2023 where at least 1.2million learners have registered for the examination this year.

Hon Kahonda says teachers are examples and every successful citizen is what he/she is because of them but they have failed to respect their profession which is hurting most people.
“We are what we are because of you teachers but it hurts to find you on the road drunk, having sex relationships with learners really teachers you used to be great people and my request is that you protect your profession because the world is proud of your work,” Hon Kahonda explained.
Out of all sub – counties and town councils in Ruhinda South, Kabira had the poorest performing schools which worried the authorities who in turn tasked school leaders to look for an immediate solution so that learners can be successful in the incoming National Examination.
Speaking at the function, Deputy RDC Mitooma Marycent Ariyo tasked headteachers to create good relationship with management committees and always be transparent especially on accountability issues if they want to see success in their schools.
”You are the accounting officers of your schools so you should cooperate with your committees and be transparent especially on money issues and act as role models in your communities”, Ariyo told Headteachers.
Deputy RDC warned headteachers against chasing learners who have defaulted to pay school fees arguing that it shows that schools have failed to implement Government programs such as UPE.
“Look for solutions instead of chasing pupils because pupils are supported by government but are not the ones who pay fees, so always contact us as authorities and we get solutions. And stop chasing our children because it forces learners to drop out of schools and that’s a loss to government”, deputy RDC explained.

Hon Agasha Juliet Bashisha Mitooma district woman MP who also blessed the function asked teachers to be patient for better renovations revealing that as leaders they are trying hard and have already forwarded the issue but the government pocket is still inadequate for all the requests.

She said as a Member of Parliament she prays that all teachers get enrolled to government payroll so that the issue of chasing pupils for fees is sorted and asked government to support schools like constructing necessary buildings, providing equipment to schools if they want better grades.
The meeting was also blessed by dignitaries who included DEO Mitooma Madam Barungi Peace, Chairman Lc5 Mr Benon Karyeija Boneza, Ruhinda South Education officials, Kabira TC technical staff among others.
