President Yoweri Museveni has expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Parish Development Model (PDM), describing it as more effective than previous poverty eradication programs such as Operation Wealth Creation, Emyooga, NAADS, and the Youth Livelihood Program.

The President made the remarks on Sunday during an interaction with Kampala journalists at State House Lodge Nakaseero, marking the conclusion of his week-long PDM assessment tours across Kampala.

“Beneficiaries are excited. I’m happy with the strategy,” the President said, noting that the model is already transforming lives at the grassroots by directly targeting households involved in the subsistence economy.

He emphasized that PDM has provided more tangible results in a shorter time compared to earlier interventions, and reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing existing bottlenecks.

Among the challenges he cited was the poor selection of SACCO leaders, which he said undermines the proper management and sustainability of funds. He assured the public that the government will take steps to rectify this.

President Museveni also highlighted the plight of some beneficiaries struggling with land insecurity, such as Mzee Nalweyiso, a piggery farmer in Rubaga Division, and poultry farmers in Kyambogo, who are reportedly facing eviction threats from landlords.

“The government will support these beneficiaries with more capital to help them hire land for their work,” he said.

The PDM tours in Kampala kicked off on Monday, July 14, in Rubaga Division and concluded today (July 20), with the President’s general address at Kololo Independence Grounds.
