The National Drug Authority (NDA) has responded to incomplete media reports regarding the contamination of animal feeds and products with ARV contamination. The NDA clarified that it is not responsible for regulating animal products and feeds, but rather drugs. However, upon learning about the contamination through media publications, the NDA conducted investigations and a scientific review and found that the reported levels were too low to cause public alarm.
The NDA took several interventions, including enforcement operations, to curb the source of the ARVs and other drugs being misused in animal feeds. These operations have led to arrests and the culprits involved are being held accountable.
The circulating media reports were found by the NDA to be incomplete and taken out of context. The NDA remains vigilant in ensuring Ugandans have access to safe, efficacious, and quality medicine.
This news story highlights the NDA’s commitment to ensuring public safety and holding individuals accountable for their actions. It also emphasizes the importance of accurate reporting and the significance of scientific review in addressing issues of public concern.
