Kampala International University (KIU) has officially announced Prof Mahmood Mamdani as her new varsity Chancellor.
“Kampala International University (KIU) is pleased to announce the appointment of PROF. MAHMOOD MAMDANI as CHANCELLOR.” KIU noted.
Mamdani replaces Prof John P. ssebuwufu whose term of office at KIU reached its maturity dates.
In a press release, the university described Prof Mamdani’s appointment as ‘praiseworthy’ expressing desires to benefit from his immense academic, professional and international reputation.
“He has influenced global higher education and other aspects of human development. KIU will immensely benefit from his rich academic, professional and international repute,”
The university further applauded Prof Ssebuwufu (the outgoing Chancellor) for his diligence and commitments towards building a strong academic KIU which has seen the University being recognized and ranked among the best education institutions on the African Continent and the leading Private University in Uganda by different bodies.
Prof Mamdani is currently working as Herbert Lehman Professor of Government Anthropology /MESAAS at Columbia University, New York a post he has held since 1999.
He is also the Director and Professor, Makerere Institute of Social Research, Makerere University, Kampala,Uganda, 2010 to present.
In May, Prof Mamdani was appointed the Advisory Board member of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).
Prof Mamdani is expected to improve on Research and Innovations which remain a great challenge to Kampala International University especially to the post graduate students.
