Nicolette International School has again brought vibrance and cultural richness to life during its Cultural Day, a colorful and educative event that showcased the beauty of diversity under the theme, “Celebrating Our Heritage and Diverse Cultural Identity.”
The event, held on the school grounds, drew participation from pupils, parents, teachers, and community leaders, all coming together to honor the various cultural backgrounds that make up the Nicolette International School community. From Uganda’s own rich traditions to global cultures, students proudly embraced their roots and that of others through attire, cuisine, stories, music, dance and drama.
Students from all class levels turned out in traditional wear that represented their cultures including cultures from other countries. Students prepared cultural exhibits featuring different regions, complete with visual displays and delicacies for guests to sample.
According to Nabatanzi Catherine, a school administrator, the goal of the annual cultural gala is to celebrate the cultural backgrounds of the diverse student body and also to instill a positive and secure sense of identity in the children, a core value of the school’s approach to holistic learning.
“When children understand and appreciate their roots and those of others, they become more empathetic, inclusive, and confident citizens, this day reminds us that diversity is about connection, learning, and mutual respect.”
Highlights of the day included traditional dances and drama performances, a fashion show of heritage costumes, and student-led exhibitions, meaning. Parents also played a crucial role by contributing traditional dishes, deepening the spirit of togetherness.
“It’s wonderful to see children proudly speaking about their culture and those of others. This kind of education goes beyond books, it shapes character and nurtures leaders who will thrive in a multicultural world.” Noted Mr. Amos Ogola, head of English department at Nicolette International School.
