The Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Kabyanga, has hailed the National Medical Stores (NMS) for its cutting-edge medical warehouse in Kajjansi, describing it as a symbol of Uganda’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery. The facility, the largest government-owned medical warehouse on the African continent, was showcased during a recent visit by over 30 Government Communicators from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Hon. Kabyanga praised NMS for its integration of advanced technology to enhance transparency and efficiency in medicine distribution. “This warehouse is not only the pride of Uganda but a testament to the Government’s dedication to improving lives through a robust health supply chain,” he said.

The Minister urged communicators to intensify public messaging around government programs, emphasizing that informed citizens foster trust and amplify impact. “When citizens know what their Government is doing for them, trust is built and impact is multiplied,” he noted.

During the visit, communicators were introduced to the NMS Delivery Monitoring Tool (DMT), a real-time tracking system that sends SMS alerts to key officials including RDCs, MPs, CAOs, DHOs, and DISOs upon dispatch and delivery of medicines. The system, supported by GPS-enabled trucks and onboard cameras, ensures full transparency and accountability from warehouse to health facility.

NMS General Manager, Mr. Moses Kamabare, highlighted the importance of preventive health communication. “While medicines are vital, prevention is even better. Over 75% of diseases in Uganda are preventable. We urge communicators to share messages that empower citizens to live healthier lives,” he said.

The visit underscored NMS’s role in delivering essential medicines to over 3,400 government health facilities nationwide and showcased how strategic communication can elevate public awareness, promote accountability, and foster a healthier population.

National Medical Stores continues to lead in innovation and transparency, setting a benchmark for public health logistics across Africa.
