Preparations are in high gears for the enthronement and consecration of Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe as the 6th Bishop of the North Kigezi Diocese.
Anonymous member of the organizing committee told this publication that all is being set for the consecration day and invitation letter to special guests have already been sent and confirmations received
The seat for North Kigezi Diocese Bishop fell vacant after the demise of Bishop Benon Magezi who succumbed to COVID. The Archbishop of the CoU the most reverend Stephen Kazimba Mugalu immediately took over as the in-charge but appointed former diocesan Bishop Emeritus Patrick Tusingwire Tugume the interim caretaker.
On 18th January,2023, the house of Bishops sitting in Entebbe elected the Makerere University chaplain at St. Francis chapel, Rev. Onesmus Asiimwe, the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese.
He was elected alongside three others including Bishop Simon Akol Aisu Karamoja diocese consecrated in 13th Feb,2023, Bishop Enos Kitto Kagodo Mukono diocese consecrated on 27th February 2023 and Bishop Godfrey Mbitse who was later elected on 25th February 2023 and also awaits consecration on 2nd April 2023.
According to information from the CoU, the enthronement and consecration of Rev. Asiimwe into a Bishop will take place on Sunday 12th March, 2023 at Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano, Rukungiri municipality.
CoU Archbishop Rt. Rev. Samuel Stephen Kazimba Mugalu will be the main celebrant at the enthronement and consecration service.
President Museveni has been invited as a chief guest however, insiders say that the security minister also the son of the land, Maj. Gen. Jim Katugugu Muhwezi (Rtd) is going to represent the president.
