North Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Jimmy Okema has expressed deep concern over the growing number of murder cases linked to domestic misunderstandings in the region.
“This is a very unfortunate incident. We continue to witness a disturbing trend in domestic violence-related murders,” said SP Okema.
This follows a tragic death of a woman in Aminya Cell, Amuca Ward, Lira-City West Division, believed to be the victim of domestic violence.
The deceased, Ajok Santa, age yet to be confirmed, was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Otiri George, during a violent domestic altercation on April 7, 2025, at around 9:21am.
The couple who had been married for over 31 years got into a heated quarrel that escalated into a physical fight. Otiri is said to have slapped Ajok forcefully, causing her to fall and lose consciousness. She was rushed to Bonam Health Centre for treatment . Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead the following day after succumbing to her injuries.

Police recorded a statement from eyewitnesses and the suspect was arrested as investigations continue. Police have reassured the public that justice will be pursued, and the suspect will be prosecuted according to the law.
Police says most of the recorded cases of murder in the region are linked to domestic violence and other social issues such as theft accusations and witchcraft suspicions.
“We urge communities to seek peaceful conflict resolution and report early signs of domestic abuse.” Okema urged.
