Akifeza Grace Ngabirano ,the NRM leaning independent in the Kisoro District Woman MP by-election has been declared winner after she obtained the highest number of votes in the election.
According to last night’s results, Daniel Nayebare, the Kisoro district returning officer announced that Akifeza obtained 50459 votes against her closest rival Rose Kabagyenyi of NRM who garnered 44982 votes.
“Accordingly, as the returning officer for Kisoro electoral district having added up the number of votes cast as recorded on each declaration of results formin accordance with section 72 of the parliamentary election act, cap 177, declare Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, who has obtained the largest number of votes winner and district representative to parliament, Kisoro electoral district,” said Nayebare.
Other four candidates Sultana Salim (NUP) got 903 votes, Mable Ingabire (UPC) garnered 362 votes, while FDC’s Juliet Musanase and PPP’s Cyimpaye Aisha scored only 193 and 157 votes, respectively.
Akifeza lost to Kabagyenyi in the NRM primary elections which she contested alleging that some party top officials aided in vote rigging, thus running as independent – NRM leaning candidate.
