The directorate of Traffic and road safety has warned candidates and their supporters against bad driving, overloading during elections campaign period.
Speaking during the harmonization meeting of all candidates for district chairperson seats, the Division Traffic Officer for Wakiso police, ASP Charlotte Ndyahabwe said victims will face the law.
“Candidates and their supporters should know that being in elections period does not mean breaking traffic laws. So anyone found will face the laws”
Ndyahabwe urged the candidates to brief their supporters to drive carefully, not overloading, over speeding because they will be arrested during or after campaigns.
Meanwhile Opposition candidates who attended the meeting condemned Security forces over defacing, uninstalling their campaign posters.
Betty Ethel Naluyima, National Unity Platform (NUP) member and Wakiso District Women MP also vying for the same post, disclosed that most of her poster particularly in Entebbe Municipality has been destroyed by security which action is disturbing and waste her funds.
Naluyima added that it’s unfortunate that security forces only allow candidates of National Resistence Movement (NRM) to have a poster in Entebbe Municipality including that of their candidate Yoweri Museveni at Entebbe International Airport.
Kyadondo East MP Muwada Nkunyinji and Charles Mugisha Katongole of Democratic Front (DF) party also vying for Busiro North Constituency both warned Security to desit from blocking thiyer activities because it is a campaign period where is free to talk to his supporters without any disturbances.
“Am ready to face-off with security if they attempt to block my activities because its time to tell my voters what am going to do for them in my second term in Parliament” Muwada said.
The Wakiso District returning officer Tolbert Musinguzi also assured candidates of peaceful campaign period however warned them to desisit from doing things which disrupt peace.
