On September 22nd, the Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) Mwesigwa Frank urged police officers to protect the reputation of the Uganda Police Force while serving the citizens. SCP Mwesigwa, the Deputy Director of Counter-Terrorism, emphasized the importance of respecting society and individuals while on duty.
Speaking at a graduation ceremony for police officers specializing in Counter-Terrorism, where 103 officers completed a rigorous one-month induction course, SCP Mwesigwa underlined the significance of respecting and actively listening to the people. He reminded the officers that they are there to serve the people, not the other way around.
The primary aim of the course was to enhance their capabilities, skills, and professionalism in protecting VIPs and fighting terrorism in Uganda. SCP Mwesigwa emphasized the need for police officers to adopt a more perceptive approach to identifying and managing threats. He also drew attention to officers’ concerns that some bodyguards assigned to VIPs were exceeding their professional mandates by performing domestic chores. SCP Mwesigwa emphasized the need to adhere strictly to professional duties and responsibilities while on duty.
“We are actively planning additional training programs to enhance your capabilities. We recognize the limitations in our numbers, but our commitment remains strong in equipping you with invaluable skills. Once you acquire these skills, make the utmost use of them,” said the Senior Commissioner of Police.
SCP Mwesigwa urged all participants to uphold discipline and set high standards as police officers, which would result in enhanced efficiency, improved service delivery, and an overall elevation of the force’s professionalism.
With the country on high alert against terrorism, vigilance from both security agencies and citizens is crucial. SCP Mwesigwa’s cautionary message serves as a reminder to the police force to protect and serve the people of Uganda.
