RWAMPARA
Police in Rwampara District have arrested a man in connection with the murder of his aunt.
The suspect, Enock Atwebembire allegedly attacked and killed Ninsiima Medius, 52, a resident of Kyonyo Cell, Bushwere Parish.
She was hacked to death near her home in Mwizi Sub-county on January 4, 2026, at around 6:00pm. Ninsiima reportedly left her home to buy salt from Rwentojo Trading Centre. While there, she stopped briefly to attend a campaign rally for a parliamentary candidate.
On her way back home, about 20 metres from her residence, she was attacked by an assailant armed with a panga. The attacker allegedly inflicted four deep cuts on her head and also injured the fingers of her right hand.

“The deceased raised an alarm that attracted members of the community, but she later succumbed to excessive bleeding,” said Samson Kasasiira – the Rwizi regional police Spokesperson. “The assailant fled immediately after the attack.”
He added that police were alerted and deployed a canine unit, which reportedly tracked a scent trail from the murder scene to a public gathering, where Atwebembire was identified and arrested.
Further inquiries established that the suspect is a nephew to the deceased. Police also revealed that he had previously been found hiding under Ninsiima’s bed while armed with a panga, raising suspicions about his intentions.
Police say investigations are still ongoing as Atwebembire remains in custody to assist with further inquiries.
