The Electoral Commission of the FDC has denominated the candidature of Brian Okori as the candidate for Secretary General in the party national youth league on allegations that he is not a qualified delegate.
Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda, the FDC Chief Electoral Commissioner said qualified leaders free to contest for any position in the party national youth league must be district youth chairpersons, vice chairpersons, 20 representatives from tertiary institutions and universities.
The removal follow a petition by the president of Kampala International University FDC Chapter, Najib Kuteesa in which he challenged the candidature of Okori Brian as party national youth secretary (chairperson) and and Ivan Massawi, candidate for Youth League Secretary General arguing that the duo is not a delegate from any of the districts, or any of the institution as required by the party in the election of National Youth League.
Voting for the youth leaders to the FDC nation youth league is due today at Najjanankumbi and over 280 youth from across the country are ready for voting.
Speaking to journalists shortly after being disqualified, Okori condemned the quack decision by the EC to remove him from the race on the last hour and pledged to take legal actions.
“We are going to move to court to overhaul this entire election. We have been peaceful as the young people, we have followed this party for long and we cannot allow a given group of people who don’t wish well this party. We have come to rejuvenate our party,” he said
Another candidate, Sosojji Allan James, aspiring candidate for Vice Chairperson Eastern region has also withdrawn candidature in defiance of what he called unfree and unfair process. He leaves in the race two candidates namely Phionah Nakayenze, and Phoebe Hope Nakasita
The removal of Okori from contesting leaves five candidates in the Chairperson race. They are Abeneitwe Manful, Francis Adepo, Swaburah Nakabira Ocieng Boniface and Okot Fredrick Nauries.
