KABALE
A man in Kabale district suffocated to death following a slip and fall incident into a fuel tank on Sunday, local police reported.
Preliminary reports show that Nazario Kyoro Tumwebaze, the deceased and resident of Kamuganguzi Sub County was investigating alleged theft of the tanker when the incident happened.
Eyewitnesses say that a yet to be identified Tricyclist parked his Tricycle registration number UGA 838R, carrying a plastic tank filled with petrol at the deceased home after it developed mechanical issues, and went away.
However, tragedy happened in the night when the deceased heard people attempting to steal the tank, prompting him to move out of the house to watch over his home.
“When he went outside to investigate, he climbed onto the tank to check its contents. However, he accidentally slipped and fell inside, suffocating to death,” police reported.
The Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson Elly Maate confirmed the incident, stating that a case file has been opened for investigation.
“Police examined and documented the scene, recorded statements from key witnesses, and transported the body to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem,” Maate stated.
Maate explained that the tanker contained petrol contents likely to be the cause of Kyoro’s death. The tricycle and fuel tank were recovered from the scene as exhibits.
