One of the three women who sustained serious injuries in the recent sauna explosion at Buziga Country Resort, in Makindye Division, has died.
Hajjati Masitula, 69, who was the Vice Chairperson of LC I Katuso Cell, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday night at Kiruddu Hospital, a family source confirmed.
She will be laid to rest today at her ancestral home in Bujjumbura East, Hoima District, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The deceased was among the victims of a devastating explosion that occurred on Sunday evening, August 24, 2025, at around 8:30pm inside the sauna facility of the resort, located in Upper Buziga Zone, Kabalagala, Makindye Division.
The blast left three women severely injured. Apart from the late Masitula, the other victims were identified as Zahara Nakawesi Kasenene, 39, who sustained burns and a fractured left leg, and Mamaram Aisha, who suffered multiple severe burns across her body.
Police said all the victims were rushed to Kiruddu Hospital, before two were referred to Nsambya and Mulago Hospitals for specialized care.
Detectives from Kabalagala Police Station have since opened an inquiry into the incident, which is suspected to be a case of rash and neglect. Preliminary findings revealed that the explosion caused extensive damage inside the sauna, though the exact cause remains unknown.
Police confirmed that the Scene of Crime Officer documented and secured the affected premises as part of the ongoing investigations.
