ISINGIRO
Pastor Dr. Abel Tumusiime has pledged to restore hope and spearhead the rebuilding of Bukanga County, promising transformative servant leadership that addresses long-standing challenges in the constituency.
A native of Bukanga, Dr. Tumusiime was officially nominated by the Electoral Commission to contest for the position of Directly Elected Member of Parliament for Bukanga County, Isingiro District. His campaign slogan, “Restoring Hope, Rebuilding Bukanga,” reflects his commitment to revitalizing a region he describes as rich in resilient people and fertile soils, yet deeply marginalized.
Speaking at the launch of his manifesto on Sunday, Tumusiime highlighted Bukanga’s persistent struggles with underdevelopment, high poverty levels, and inadequate public services. He vowed to deliver leadership that listens, lobbies, and works tirelessly to bring government services and sustainable development to the people.
Tumusiime’s campaign platform is built around 12 strategic commitments aimed at fostering transformation, dignity and prosperity. Key focus areas include:
Economic and Livelihood Transformation, Promoting agriculture and economic empowerment through strengthened SACCOs and Village Savings Groups.
Infrastructure Development by lobbying for the upgrading and maintenance of feeder and district roads, expanding rural electrification and enhancing digital connectivity.
Water Access: Ensuring clean and safe water through borehole construction and rainwater harvesting systems, education, health and youth empowerment among others.
Tumusiime emphasized the urgent need to improve education and skills development in Bukanga. He pledged to advocate for better school infrastructure, adequate teacher deployment, promotion of girl-child education, and the establishment of vocational training centers focused on trades and ICT.
On health, he committed to upgrading local health facilities, ensuring the availability of essential medicines and personnel and prioritizing maternal and child health services.
Recognizing Uganda’s youthful population, Tumusiime proposed the creation of community recreation and sports facilities, youth sports programs and talent incubation and mentorship initiatives to boost employment and personal development.
Criticizing the current leadership for failures in governance, peace and regional cooperation, Tumusiime pointed to poor cross-border infrastructure with neighboring Tanzania and Rwanda as a barrier to regional engagement.
In a symbolic gesture of his environmental commitment, he launched a tree-planting and soil conservation campaign aimed at protecting water sources and wetlands from degradation.
Tumusiime said that he has prepared enough to set to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon. Stephen Kangwagye in the upcoming elections.
