The State House Anti-corruption Unit on Friday evening arrested the secretary of Buwekula PDM Sacco Jinja city, Stella Atwooki Nakayima on allegations of extortion.
It is alleged that the suspect would deduct shillings 100,000 from each member’s beneficiary Shs 1M claiming to be taking it to the parish chief.
Members reported Nakayima to police for extortion of money from old and vulnerable beneficiaries prompting police and SHACU to arrest her.
In related stories, yesterday, the head of State House Anti-corruption Unit Brig Gen Henry Isoke held a meeting with the MD Post Bank Uganda, Julius Kaketo, and ED Andrew Kabera on the technology being used by Post Bank to conviniently serve Parish Development Model beneficiaries, particularly the rural masses.
According to the bank, the technology enables quick and cheap access to PDM funds, using phone applications. It also enables easy and real time monitoring by various stakeholders, including enforcement agencies.
“Post Bank and SHACU have explored ways of working together in using this technology to ensure PDM funds that have been disbursed are received by the rightful beneficiaries,” bank officials said
Brig Gen. Isoke commended Post Bank for their use of technology to extend financial services to PDM beneficiaries and their commitment to work with stakeholders to ensure the program succeeds.
