The Uganda Police Force has dismissed reports that National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has been arrested.
Reports that circulated on mainstream and social media on Friday evening alleged that a drone aircraft had picked up Kyagulanyi from his home in Magere, Wakiso District.
However, police spokesperson Michael Kituuma Rusoke on Saturday described the claims as false and misleading.
“We have not arrested Kyagulanyi. If we were to arrest him, we would inform the public and give reasons for the arrest,” Kituuma said, adding that the NUP leader was safe at his home in Magere and had not been detained.

Kituuma accused Kyagulanyi’s family members of spreading what he termed as deceitful information intended to incite the public to violence. He urged the public to remain calm, emphasising the police’s commitment to maintaining law and order during and after the election period.
Addressing concerns over heavy security deployment around Kyagulanyi’s residence, Kituuma said police had deployed in all areas considered to be of security interest and that there was nothing unlawful about deploying at the opposition leader’s home.
“We have the right to deploy anywhere. Kyagulanyi is not under arrest, and he has not been restricted from moving,” Kituuma said, dismissing reports that the NUP candidate was under house arrest.
He explained that access around Magere had been controlled because the area was considered a security hotspot, noting that Kyagulanyi’s home could be used as a springboard to incite violence
