The police in Rubirizi district are currently investigating a disturbing case of alleged aggravated defilement involving a 4-year-old girl from Kyeibumba 2 village, Buzenga parish, Ryeru sub-county. According to the police statement, the incident occurred on August 20, 2025, at around 7:00 pm.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as 17-year-old Justus, a male resident of the area who collects banana peelings for their cows, reportedly lured the victim into a bedroom while she was playing with other children. The victim’s parents had entrusted her care to someone in the village.
The police annual crime report for 2022 showed a 4.3% decrease in reported cases of aggravated defilement compared to 2021, with 3,620 cases reported.
Upon receiving the report, the police visited the crime scene, managed it accordingly, and subjected the victim to a medical examination to gather evidence. Efforts to apprehend the juvenile suspect are ongoing, and the police will provide updates on the investigation’s progress.
SP Apollo Tayebwa, Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, has condemned the act and urged parents and caregivers to prioritize children’s safety and security. This incident highlights the need for increased vigilance and awareness to protect vulnerable children from sexual abuse.
In a similar incident last year, a 32-year-old man from Rubirizi District was arrested for allegedly defiling his 4-year-old biological daughter. The suspect was found to have defiled the child multiple times, and medical tests confirmed the abuse.
