Police in Rukungiri District have launched investigations into the attempted murder of Angello Twinomuhangi, an independent candidate for the LCV chairperson seat in the upcoming 2026 general elections.
According to police reports, Twinomuhangi was discovered unconscious and tied up near Minera Bridge in Nyarushanje Sub County on the evening of January 6, 2026. The victim was found abandoned beside his vehicle, a white car Subaru registration number UA 527BH.
At around 9:30 p.m., Byamukama Alphonse, the head teacher at St. Jerome Secondary School in Ndama, was driving towards Rukungiri Town when a bodaboda rider flagged him down. The rider pointed out a man lying next to a stationary vehicle. Upon closer inspection, Alphonse found Twinomuhangi bound with suspected USB cables, gagged with a handkerchief, and unconscious.

Twinomuhangi was rescued and transported in his own vehicle to Nyakibale Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The case was registered at Kebison Police Station as attempted murder. A team led by SSP Ampaire Brian, the District Police Commander, visited the crime scene, documented evidence, and collected exhibits including two handkerchiefs and two suspected USB cables. The victim’s vehicle was also taken to Rukungiri Police Station for further examination.
