Rwizi Regional Police spokesperson, ASP Samson Kasasira, has today confirmed the tragic death of Police Constable Sulaiman Kyelemonguzi, attached to Bisheshe Division Police Station. The shocking incident occurred earlier today at around 10:00 am and is reported to have been perpetrated by an enraged mob.
The constable was deployed to maintain peace during the funeral of Mr. Razalus Kahagire, who had been detained at Nyabuhikye Government Prison following disputes over land conflicts. Razalus passed away while in custody, sparking unrest among community members. The angry mob turned violent during the burial, resulting in the brutal death of the deployed officer.
This unfortunate event comes just a day after the community mourned the loss of Madam Mackline, the Senior Human Resource Officer of Ibanda Municipality, whose death also created somber ripples in the region.
The body of the late Police Constable Kyelemonguzi has been taken to Ruhoko Hospital for postmortem examination. ASP Kasasira has condemned the act of mob justice, emphasizing its dangerous repercussions and calling on community members to seek lawful conflict resolution.
Investigations into the incident are underway as authorities vow to bring the perpetrators to justice.
