Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has called upon the people of Serbia to support his country’s economic goals of adding value to its raw materials.
Speaking at a business summit in Belgrade, Museveni emphasised that Uganda was capable of producing any agricultural product and asked countries such as Serbia to assist in adding value to its crops, such as coffee, cocoa and tea.
He cited the 2.5 USD received from selling a kilogram of unprocessed coffee in comparison to the 40 USD received from processing, roasting, grinding and packaging it. Museveni also criticised the global coffee business, stating that despite most coffee-producing nations receiving only 25 billion USD of the 460 billion USD market, non-producer Germany earned 6.85 billion USD from it.
He added that the lack of value received for raw materials contributes to issues including poverty, insecurity and war on the African continent.
President Vucic expressed his gratitude to President Museveni for accepting his invitation to visit Serbia and praised him for being an exceptional leader with a wealth of experience. He acknowledged that he had learned a lot from President Museveni and thanked him and the people of Uganda for their support of Serbia’s territorial sovereignty.
President Vucic also assured Uganda of Serbia’s continuous bilateral cooperation. Vucic highlighted Africa’s rapid growth and predicted that within 30 years it would become one of the world’s largest and most important markets after Asia. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Uganda Airlines would commence operations in Serbia before the year ends.
Furthermore, President Vucic confirmed his attendance at the upcoming Non-Allied Movement (NAM) summit scheduled to take place in Uganda and expressed his honor and pleasure to participate in the meeting in Kampala.
