The Resident District Commissioners Secretariat Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) has raised concerns over increased cases of drug theft in government health facilities, and insecurity in the country.
Maj. Martha Asiimwe, Head of RDC Secretariat/ACU, Office of the president says her office has credible reports about the theft of government drugs supplied by the National Medical Stores (NMS), and called for public vigilance to curb down this practice.
“We must guard against the theft of essential medicines supplied by National Medical Stores to our health centres. These medicines are meant to benefit the people, and any attempt to divert them for personal gain must be strongly condemned,” said Maj. Martha Asiimwe.

She challenged leaders to protect public resources to ensure that they serve the intended purpose.
Additionally, Dr. Sr. Akiror Mary Grace, Deputy Head , RDC Secretariat/ACU, expressed concerns over high urban crime rates in Gulu city, stating that crimes are a security threat. Sr. Akiror called for concerted efforts to implement security decisions made by their local leaders.
“Security remains a critical mandate of the office of the president, and the RCC serves as the chairperson of your city security committee. Each one of you has a role within this framework, implementing security decisions at various levels,” Dr. Sr. Akiror said.
She called for teamwork, coordination, and firm commitment to upholding the law. Sr. Akiror also commended frontline officers for their great contribution toward managing security threats in Gulu City amidst challenges.
